New OH&S Regulation in Alberta for Arborists - Part 39
Alberta OH&S has recently put into regulation a new code specifically for arborists. If you are an arborist in Alberta you may want to check out this new information and how it applies to you.

Part 39 in its final form can be found in the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Code. The OHS Code was made publicly available back in November of 2003. You can find it at the following Web address:
http://www3.gov.ab.ca/hre/whs/publications/pdf/OHSC-1.pdf

Also, it is very important that arborists know about the OHS Code Explanation Guide - the plain language explanation of the requirements of the OHS Code. You'll find the Explanation Guide at the following address:
http://www3.gov.ab.ca/hre/whs/law/ohs_regcode_down.asp#eg

In particular, the explanation of Part 39's requirements appears at the following address:
http://www3.gov.ab.ca/hre/whs/law/pdf/ohsc_p39.pdf
Please note that the explanation of Part 39 makes reference to other rules within the OHS Code that also apply to tree care operations.

Please contact the Prairie Chapter office to request a news bulletin to be posted in this area.
