Arborist Opportunity

St. Charles Country Club is seeking an Arborist to join our Management Team for the upcoming year.  The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated team player who is passionate about their essential role in providing our membership and guests with the best possible playing conditions.  As an older golf club St. Charles is fortunate to have many stately trees, particularly Elms and Oak trees and our members are passionate about keeping them in the best possible health.

St. Charles Country Club is located in Winnipeg, Manitoba and has occupied the same site adjacent to the Assiniboine River since 1904.  With 3 distinct nine hole courses, one each designed by Donald Ross, Alister MacKenzie and Norman Woods, St. Charles is one of Winnipeg’s Premier Country Clubs.  The membership is passionate about the golf course and the playing conditions.  In 2022 and 2023 St. Charles will begin restorations of its MacKenzie and Ross nines, the scope of work includes irrigation, bunker restoration, re-grassing prime playing surfaces and other associated renovation works.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Inspects the Club’s tree population with a focus on developing treatment plans for high profile trees, particularly Oak and Elm Trees
  • Inspects the property for trees that would be a safety concern and removes or prunes promptly.
  • Pruning of dead/broken limbs throughout the season. Removal of dead/dying trees throughout the season to provide best possible aesthetic appeal on the property.
  • Develops recommendations for plantings(species, location, methods, aftercare) in a consultation with Course Superintendent and Consulting Golf Course Architect.
  • Applies or arranges application of Fertilizers and Pesticides according to treatment plans for high profile trees.
  • Participation with the Club’s Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program Certification Process.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from a formal Arboriculture or Greenspace Management Program or Equivalent
  • ISA Certification an Asset
  • Ability to remove, prune and climb trees as necessary to perform tree maintenance practices
  • Ability to operate power equipment safely and efficiently(chainsaws, chipper, tractor ect.)

St. Charles Country Club offers a very competitive compensation and benefits program to the chosen candidate.  This is a full time salaried position with a work term that is negotiable to suit the needs of the candidate and the club.
