Alien Invasive Species Forum

 

Join Dr. Ken Fry (Entomologist and Olds College faculty), Dr. Jean Turgeon (Natural Resources Canada), Troy Kimoto (Canadian Food and Inspection Agency), and other experts in urban forest management for an alien invasive species forum. Learn about some of the most significant insects and diseases threatening the forests of the Prairie Provinces; Dutch Elm disease vectors (three species), Emerald Ash Borer, Asian Longhorned Beetle, and European Sirex, among others.

 

Hear from the experts about the efforts of CFIA, Olds College and StopDED in surveillance and education, as well as what you can do.

 

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Receive status updates and learn about management options for invasive forest pests (Dutch elm disease, Emerald Ash Borer, Asian Longhorned Beetle and others)
  • Participate in workshops on early detection and identification
  • Learn about the National Forest Pest Strategy
  • CEU’s pending
